Praying For My Husband
I've been praying for my husband since I was a Freshman in High School.
I know what you're thinking, "you've been married since you were a Freshman?!"
No, I know you aren't actually thinking that, but this can be a confusing concept to some people. Allow me to explain...
Anyone who knows anything about me knows that I have been single for basically my entire life. It's just a known fact that Hannah will always be the third, fifth, seventh, or even nineteenth wheel! In fact, one night me and a few of my girlfriends were coming up with wedding hashtags for ourselves and mine just so happened to be #RemainingRoebuck. The thing is though, I am perfectly content with that, but that isn't how I've always felt.
I used to hate being single. I used to feel worthless because in my mind that's exactly what I was, purely because I couldn't get a boyfriend. I used to feel like there was something wrong with me because all of my closest friends had great relationships and I was stuck spending my Friday nights watching Ghost Whisperer reruns and eating Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream straight out of the container...
Then one day it all changed. It was like something just hit me (well it wasn't just something, it was God). That's when I found the verse. My verse. The verse that I have engraved in a necklace. The verse that is used as my phone screensaver. The verse that started this whole blog...
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you a hope and a future." -Jeremiah 29:11
That's when it hit me. God has a plan for my life. I may not have a perfect relationship right now but there is a reason for that. Like Ecclesiastes 3 says, there is a time and a season for everything, even singleness.
I would still feel lonely sometimes, but that's when I started praying for my husband. I've even gone as far as to write letters for my future husband, and while this isn't something down everyones alley, I strongly encourage every woman to pray for your husband. If your like me and have no idea who your husband may be, pray for him anyways. If your engaged and ready to be married, pray for him. If you've been married for 3 years, 15 years, 75 years, pray for him.
Now you may find that you don't know where to start if it's your first time doing this. A while back, I wrote down an outline for how to pray for my husband, along with scripture to back it up. In hopes that this will help you learn how to start praying for your husband, I've decided to share my outline with you all...
1. Faith
That he may never lose his faith and that he will continue to trust God in every circumstance even when it seems as though all odds are against him.
2 Corinthians 4:18
2. Wisdom
May his wisdom increase as he comes to know God better so that he may share his knowledge with others in order to create disciples and further the kingdom of God.
James 1:5
3. Strength
That he may have the strength and the energy to be obedient and faithful to the Father even when he finds it difficult to do so.
Isaiah 40:31
4. Confidence
That he may find his confidence in the Lord and not in the things of this world.
Philippians 3:4
5. Protection
That he may be kept safe and healthy all the days of his life.
Psalms 28:7
6. Leadership
That he may have the ability, knowledge, and strength to lead me and our family.
Ephesians 5:25-29
7. Decision Making
May he be quick to filter his decisions through The Word.
2 Peter 3:18
8. Peace
That he may be filled with peace and calm confidence in Gods ability to orchestrate his life.
Isaiah 26:3
9. Joy
That he will remember that happiness is a choice and that he may find his joy in God alone no matter the circumstance.
1 Peter 1:8
10. Temptations
That he will not fall into temptations but will stand steadfast to the Word of God.
Psalms 119:11
11. Patience
That he may have the patience to wait for me just as I have been given the patience to wait for him.
Jeremiah 29:11
12. His Calling
That he may have a clear mind that focuses on the Father and what He has set out for him to do and to be.
Acts 28:31
Now, these are just the main points I use when I pray for my husband daily. Feel free to expand on each of these and even come up with more of your own to better fit your circumstances! I encourage each and every one of you to come up with an outline for praying for your husband daily!
