But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
I have come to learn in these past few months of my Senior year that growing up comes with making a TON of decisions and people constantly asking questions about the future.
Where are you going to college?
Are you going to join a sorority?
What are you majoring in?
Where do you want to live?
How much do you plan on making?
Are you going to start dating again?
........
I DON'T KNOW!!!!
Some of the decisions we are faced with in becoming an adult are really important ones; should I go to college far off and gain some great new friends and experiences even though it costs a fortune or should I go to the one that's 20 minutes from my house with the same people I've grown up with because I basically have it paid for?
There are also smaller decisions that we encounter; Do I join a sorority? Maybe the newspaper staff? Oh I know, I'll sign up for ballet!
And then there are the decisions that we make on a daily basis without even realizing it; Should I sit with my friends at lunch or the cute new boy? Should I spend an extra ten minutes checking twitter and instagram or should I use that time to start studying my bible?
All of these decisions, big or small, can be really tough to make. Sometimes you get so caught up in trying to make the right decisions that you forget about the most important answer to all of your problems. GOD!
Once you start putting God first when deciding something the answer becomes so much more clear!
Well, Hannah it isn't that easy....
YES IT IS
Matthew 6:33 says to 'Seek ye first the kingdom of God.' Which means to seek God first in EVERYTHING!
When having to decide between two things it's usually pretty easy to see which one glorifies God the most.
Do I go to the college that I know has an amazing youth program for Christian students with an awesome church and tons of opportunities for me to work for the Lord OR do I go to the college that's less expensive with no Christian program for students?
Seek ye first the kingdom of God.
The answer is pretty obvious isn't it.
I totally get that it can be really scary to seek God in all of your decisions, especially if you don't know how things might work out and choosing to seek God first might be the riskier option. But the awesome thing is God PROMISES that when you seek His kingdom first, all of these things shall be added unto you. God also promises in my favorite verse, Jeremiah 29:11, that He has a plan for you! A plan to prosper you and not to harm you! A plan to give you a hope and a future!
Isn't God SO good!?!
I realize that in making decisions, especially the smaller ones that don't seem that important, you may not be able to see clearly at first which decision brings glory to God. If that's the case... PRAY
People often times underestimate the power of prayer but God tells us in Mark 11:24 "Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them."
Ask God what you should do. Ask him to show you which answer will glorify Him the most and then go out and...
Seek ye first the kingdom of God.
